Mollywoods biggest commercial director Joshie's latest film Christian brothers, which has made news due to the high budget and star cast, was postponed to July. The budget was expected to go beyond Rs 3.5 crore which was the limit set by the producers' association. Then actor Thilakan controversy came up. The actor blamed a superstar for his ouster from this film, who was supposed to do a role in Christian Brothers. The movie features Mohanlal, Sarath Kumar, Suresh Gopi and Dileep. Lafangey Parindey starred by Neil Nithin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone, has failed to make it’s presence felt at the box office. According to sources, the opening day’s collection was approximately Rs35 million (Rs3.5 crore) across India and the weekend’s net collections is around Rs.100 million. The movie ran to an average 30-35% occupancy across theaters during the opening weekend. Both Deepika and Neil have won appreciation for their performances in the movie. This year, as India completes 60 years of its Republic, the song has been re-created as ‘Phir Mile Sur’ featuring more than 60 known personalities, including actors Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Juhi Chawla. On her Twitter page, Bollywood actress and IPL team owner Preity Zinta recounts how she got stuck in a toilet at the Delhi airport for about 10 minutes. She was there to catch her flight to Mumbai. The toilet door got jammed and finally, Preity had to jump off the wall to get out. Recounts Preity, “Spent 10 minutes stuck in the toilet at the airport…Finally had to climb the wall and jump over… People were calling out my name. Thought I was going to die as I am claustrophobic. Pulled a muscle in my arm but did provide entertainment to all.” “Being a tomboy when I was younger definitely helped. Trying to climb a wall is never easy. Phew! Happy to go home now,” she added.

Kangana Ranaut seems to be on seventh heaven as she wins the National award for best supporting actress in Fashion at the 56th National awards announced on Saturday. An elated Kangana said, “There’s a mini-celebration in my house, though my parents were crying when they heard about it. At 23 I seem to have cracked the highest cultural award for the country. What more can I do? I should just pack up and go back to my home in Himachal now with my parents.” Not only her parents, but her fans too are overjoyed at her achievement. The most prestigious civilian awards, the Padma awards 2010, have been announced and Bollywood has indeed made its presence felt here too. Of the total 130 awardees, 6 are Padma Vibhushan, 43 Padma Bhushan, and 81 Padma Shri. The award winners include Ilayaraja, Aamir Khan and AR Rahman for Padma Bhushan, and Rekha, Arundhati Nag, Resul Pokutty and Saif Ali Khan for Padma Shri. Aamir Khan, who at present is in the US for the Sundance Film Festival, said it was “wonderful” to be chosen for the honour and thanked his fans and well wishers for their support. He expressed his joy saying, “The first thing that comes to my mind is my mother’s smiling face. This has been a good day for me. My film ‘Peepli Live’ gets superb response at the Sundance Film Festival and then I receive this wonderful news of getting Padma Bhushan. I wish I was back home right now.”

The 56th National Film Awards on Saturday, handed over as many as 13 awards to Bollywood. However, the Bengali film ‘Antaheen’ stole the show by winning the best feature film award and three more awards. Priyanka Chopra bagged in the best actress award and Kangana Ranaut got the best supporting actress honour, both for Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’. Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Rock On’ got the best Hindi film award and actor Arjun Rampal won the best supporting actor award for the same film. The Indira Gandhi award for the Best debut film of a director went to Neeraj Pandey’s ‘A Wednesday’, Yash Raj Films’ ‘Roadside Romeo’ bagged award in the best animation film category. Dibakar Banerjee’s satirical ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ was awarded the best popular film award. The award for best direction has gone to Bala for Tamil film Naan Kadauul, while the best actor is Upendra Limaye for Marathi film Jogva.

Actor-turned-director Parmeet Sethi has put in, not one but three intimate lip-locks between the lead pair, Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma for his forthcoming YRF film and according to sources, the kisses are not the brush-of-the-lips type. They are full-on smooches.” However, initially Anushka was not comfortable with the idea. Parmeet had to do a lot of cajoling. Aamir Khan is on a high after the super success of his latest release, ‘ 3 Idiots ’. He has bagged in the endorsement deal for a new telecom entrant, UAE’s Etisalat, for whopping Rs 30-35 crores for three years. With this, Aamir becomes the first and the only Indian actor to have been paid such big amount for a brand promotion. The deal had been on for long but it was only recently that the entire plan was finalised. It may be mentioned here that Aamir’s hardcore competitor, SRK, charges in the range of Rs 6 to 8 crores per advertisement. However, Aamir’s pay stands far behind the figures of the billion-dollar life-time endorsement that golf legend Tiger Woods signed, and the $70 million deal that Russian tennis sensation Maria Sharapova bagged early this month from Nike for eight years. Aamir is already the brand ambassador of several brands like Parle, Coca-Cola, Tata Sky and Samsung.
