Parveen Babi News

Parveen Babi (Hindi: परवीन बाबी, Urdu: پروین بابی) (April 4, 1949 - January 20, 2005) was an Indian actress. She was born in Junagadh and did her early schooling in Aurangabad and later attended St. Xavier's College, Ahmedabad. Her father Vali Mohammed Babi, a Gujarati Muslim, was an administrator with the Nawab of Junagadh. Babi was born fourteen years after the marriage of her parents and was an only child. She was one of the most successful Bollywood actress the 1970s and was known for her portrayal of strong women who did not care about the conventional norms of society. She was the first Indian actress to have featured on TIME magazine's cover, in 1975. In her most successful films, she was paired opposite Amitabh Bachchan, who was one of the biggest stars of the decade, in big hits like Amar Akbar Anthony. Padma Lakshmi (b. 1970) is a New York-based Indian American model, actress and award-winning cookbook author. Starting with season two, she has been the host of the reality television program Top Chef. Lakshmi was born in Delhi, India, to South Indian Tamil Brahmin parents, grew up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and in New York City, and is fluent in five languages - English, Hindi, Italian, Spanish, and Tamil. Parminder Kaur Nagra

Parminder Kaur Nagra was born October 5, 1975 in Leicester, UK and is a British actress of Indian descent. Nagra was born to Sikh parents who immigrated to the UK from the Punjab region of northern India in the late 1960s. Affectionately known as "Mindi". Her middle name, meaning "Princess," is traditionally given to Sikh women (Sikh men traditionally have the middle name "Singh."). Her family background was decidedly working class. Her father, Sucha, a factory worker, is believed to have separated from her mother, Nashuter, a packer in a factory, when Parminder was a child. Parminder, her two younger brothers, and her younger sister were raised in a small terrace house in the Belgrave district of Leicester by her mother and stepfather, who worked as a bookkeeper at a cousin's transport company. At the age of seven, Nagra suffered a burn that resulted in the scar shown in her 2002 breakout role in the internationally acclaimed film Bend It Like Beckham
