Joining Bollywood was an easy decision for Raima. She began with Ajai Sinha’s “Bachelor”, but was only noticed with the film “Godmother” in 1999 along with the veteran actress Shabana Azmi. She then starred in the film Daman playing daughter of Raveena Tandon., where her small performance was appreciated.

Raima’s career graph has been marked with many films that have taked her career to higher and higher levels of success. Films like Daman, Parineeta, Eklavya and Dus have been important landmarks in her profession. She has also done comendable roles in Bengali cinema. Neel Nirjane, Chokher Bali, Nishijapon and Swapner Din have only made Raima more and more popular.

From an early age, Raima was lucky enough to get different genres of films but her characters have mostly been of a wife and her marital disharmony. Whether it was the marital violence in Daman or the incompatibility with her husband in Chokher Bali, Raima has always been the victim.

Raima showed some great performances as the mentally challenged princess Nandini in Eklavya and the sweet and light hearted Koyal in Parineeta.

A true bengali at heart is how you can define Raima. She loves Kolkata’s street food, jhalmuri and aloo chat and feels extremely proud of her bengali culture. Though she is now settled in Mumbai, she often misses her family and dog who are in the Bengal capital.
