Elegant and sensuous, 5’ 7” tall, Femina Miss India (Universe) 2002 and a model turned bollywood actress, all go on to define one versatile artist, actress Neha Dhupia.
A history honors student, Neha was born on 27th August, 1980 in Cochin to Sikh parents. She was raised in Delhi and went to the Army Public School and later to the
Jesus and Mary College.
Neha jumped to fame with her serial Rajdhani and the music video Euphoria. She did ads for famous labels like Reebok, Mitsubishi Lancer, Gillette, Pepsi and LG. After doing small roles in a few films, Neha did Julie in 2004. This film centered around this call girl(played by Dhupia) who is forced into her present situations. Neha immediately grabbed attension of the viewers and critics both.
A mixed bag is what we can call Neha’s films. From the double role of a good and a bad character in Sheesha, to an abused wife in Rakht, Neha has done quite a variety of roles already. Though her performance has not been outstanding, it has been reasonably good.
With Julie, Neha had been titled a sex bomb. But of late she has been trying to come out of that image and show some real acting. She has signed a no. of short films lately, which are low on budget. This girl, who once said that only sex and SRK sell, is now set to give her onscreen image a complete makeover.
Three of Neha’s recently released films have been Delhi heights, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local and Shootout At Lokhandwala. While she plays the role of top cop Aftab Ahmed Khan’s (Sanjay Dutt) wife in Shootout, her role doesn’t contribute to the storyline in any significant way. In Ek Chalis.. also, her portrayal of Mala, a prostitute is not laudable. It’s about average.
Overall, this thin boned actress has shown commendable improvement in her acting but has a long way ahead of her before she can become a top name in the film industry.
