Konkona is undoubtedly the queen of factual films. She is one actress who has done more “reality” movies than fictional films. Daughter of renowned actress Aparna Sen, Koko, as she is fondly called, is more into the unconventional genre of films. While other heroines want to be a part of big banner films, here is one example of a true talented and dedicated actress, who solely believes in the quality of work and not the quantity.
A total Bengali from heart and soul, Konkona was born to Aparna Sen and Mukul Sharma, in Calcutta (now Kolkata), on 3rd December, 1979. She even has a sister Kamalini Chatterjee. From a tender age of three, she wanted to be a journalist. Konkona had her schooling from Modern High School, Kolkata and college from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.
Konkona debuted from the Bengali film “Ek Je Achhe Konya” in 2000. Her career as a Bollywood actress began with the film Mr and Mrs. Iyer, where she played the role of Meenakshi Iyer, a hindu vegetarian wife. Her very first film won as many as 9 awards including the awards for screenplay, best feature film and Nargis Dutt Award.
From the roadside prostitute in Traffic Signal to the reporter in Page 3, Konkona has done versatile roles in just about 15 films. Her careergraph soars high with films like 15 Park Avenue, Mixed Doubles, Deadline; Sirf 24 Ghante, Omkara and the very recent Life In A Metro.
The very confidant Konkona has never felt pressurized with any comparison between her and her mom, Aparna. She believes that hard work and good luck go along way in making a person. Whether its Boman Irani in Page 3 or Irfan Khan in Life in a Metro, Konkana experiences a level of comfort with her every co star.
This multi talented actress says that she loves being directed by her mother Aparna, who, according to her, is a perfectionist and a very hard taskmaster.
This time Konkona is looking forward to doing some act of comedy in Rituparno Ghosh’s “Sunglasses”. This film is a situational slapstick with Konkana delivering some hilarious dialogues. She is hoping that the audience will accept her in this role as well.
