The term ‘item girl’ has been tagged with Shamita after her famous super hit item songs "Sharara" in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2001) and "Chori Pe Chori" in Saathiya (2002). Soon after her popularity rose following the super success of her item songs and soon she began to get roles which would showcase her acting ability, such as Wajahh and Bewafaa in which she played negative roles. Her best performance till date has been in the 2005 hit Zeher, further enhancing her career in Bollywood. She also went on to star in the film Fareb with her sister, which was an avergae grosser at the box-office.
